Internal Family Systems Therapy

IFS is a proven, gentle approach to healing trauma. The name can sound a little confusing at first. IFS isn’t really about your family members (though they may come up in the process). Instead, it’s about your inner family, or the different parts of you that hold feelings, memories, and beliefs.

  • IFS sessions are collaborative and paced to feel safe and manageable. You’ll be gently guided to find, connect with and unburden parts of yourself that perform protective functions rooted in early traumas.

Your therapist will integrate IFS with somatic and expressive arts approaches to help you calm your nervous system when you feel triggered, so you can move out of survival mode and into a more grounded, balanced state. Over time, these protective instincts will return to regulation through restored trust in yourself.

  • IFS is especially effective for trauma because it does not force you to revisit painful experiences before you’re ready. Instead, it helps you safely work with the protective parts that have formed around those experiences.

Over time, this can reduce reactivity, increase emotional resilience, and change the fear response that gets triggered by memories.

  • IFS can help with depression, trauma, self-esteem, relationship challenges, and feeling “stuck” in life.

With that being said not every client will click with this therapy style. Our therapists are trained in other modalities and can easily pivot should IFS not be your cup of tea!
